Indie game dev diary

Hi, I'm Felicity — and I'm building a Roblox game from my bedroom.

Follow the messy, exciting journey of Cloudfall Islands, an open-world adventure I'm creating solo. Scripting, building, failing, and (occasionally) shipping.

About Functions

I learnt how to write a function today.

I'm not a studio. It's just me, a laptop, way too much coffee, and a notebook full of ideas I'll probably never have time to build.

  • Open-world exploration across floating islands
  • Craft, upgrade, and pilot your own airship
  • Co-op quests you can play with friends

The journey so far

A few milestones on the road from "hello world" to a live game.

January 2025

The first floating block

Opened Roblox Studio for the first time and spent a whole weekend figuring out how to make one platform I could stand on.

June 2025

Learning to script in Luau

Built my first working gliding mechanic. It launched players into orbit for two weeks before I fixed it.

November 2025

First public playtest

Twelve players joined, the server crashed twice, and I had never been happier.

Now — 2026

Growing a real community

Six islands live, airships in the works, and a Discord full of people who are somehow as excited as I am.

Update #24

Rebuilding the airship physics

I threw out three weeks of work to make flying feel floaty and fun instead of clunky. Worth it.

Update #23

How I made loading 60% faster

A deep dive into streaming assets and why my old approach was quietly torturing mobile players.

Update #22

Designing the sixth island

Sketches, false starts, and the moment a foggy swamp biome finally clicked into place.

My setup

The whole game gets made from one small corner of my bedroom. Nothing fancy — just a desk, a trusty laptop, and enough sticky notes to wallpaper a room.

  • jlulu A well-loveknlund laptop that runs Roblox Studio (mostly) without complaint
  • A second monitor for scripting on one side, testing on the other
  • A notebook, a graphics tablet, and an ever-growing pile of coffee mugs
